It was a gloomy day in Osun State on Saturday after an 18-seater commercial bus enroute Ogun rammed into a stationary truck at Asejere end of the Osun-Ogun road, killing five person instantly and scores injured.
Of the five victims, was a journalist, 48-year-old Nathaniel Abimbola, a staff of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) and four members of Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Ayetoro Osogbo.
The driver of the bus which was conveying the passengers’ en route Ogun State was said to have experienced brake failure before ramming into the truck on Asejire junction.
Sources said that the injured have been rushed to the State Hospital in Ibadan and Ikire, where they were receiving treatment.
Reacting over road clash, the Osun state governor, Rauf Aregbesola, expressed grief over Abimbola’s death, who marked his 48th birthday 10 days ago, and the four others.
Aregbesola in a condolence message signed by the Director Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Semiu Okanlawon in Osogbo on Saturday, said the death of Abimbola has robbed the state-owned media organization of one of its most dependable hands.
While describing Abimbola demised as a dependable and reliable information manager, the governor said: “This is sudden and tragic. Abimbola has shown himself as a reliable hand in the business of dissemination of information.
“His life was short but was eventful. He has demonstrated capacity for professional excellence but he has come to the end of his journey, we console ourselves with the reality that death is a necessary end that must come when it is our time,” he added.
The chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State chapter, Biodun Olalere, however declared a seven day mourning for Abimbola, just as he described the late journalist as a man loved by all through his penchant for peace and hardwork.
Also, Osun State House of Assembly has in a statement by the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, said it was like a strange dream hard to believe.
