OWODE, OGUN — The Obafemi Owode Zonal Community Development Committee (CDC) has declared its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during the grand opening of the newly constructed CDC Multipurpose Hall and Secretariat in Owode, a community-driven project reportedly funded entirely by development practitioners within the Obafemi Owode Zonal CDC without government intervention.
The Zonal CDC Chairman, Engr. Adeleke Adegboyega, said the decision to align with the APC was informed by the party's leadership and what the committee described as the developmental contributions of its candidates to the people.
Adegboyega particularly commended the Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, citing his interventions in infrastructure, women empowerment, social engagement and community welfare.
He said Adeola's record demonstrated an understanding of effective representation and governance, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity and ambition to contribute to the development of Ogun State.
YAYI HAILS COMMUNITY-DRIVEN DEVELOPMENT
Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Adeola YAYI commended the Obafemi Owode Zonal CDC for what he described as a remarkable achievement in constructing its own secretariat and multipurpose hall through community-driven efforts.
He described the project as significant because it was completed without government intervention, noting that such initiatives demonstrated the capacity of communities to take ownership of their development.
Adeola also expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Amb. Adesina 'Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, for his support and role in his emergence as the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State.
The senator further identified Obafemi Owode as a strategically important area because of its proximity to Lagos and other neighbouring states, as well as its economic potential.
He said urban and regional development would be a major pillar of his development blueprint, promising that Obafemi Owode Local Government would receive significant attention under the programme.
As part of his support for the CDC, Adeola donated 50 solar-powered streetlights to the organisation for installation around its newly constructed secretariat, alongside other gifts.
SALISU CALLS FOR SUPPORT FOR APC CANDIDATES
Also speaking, the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Sen. Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, praised the CDC leadership for mobilising resources to construct the facility.
Salisu urged residents to continue supporting the APC, specifically calling for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI, himself, Hon. Olumide Osoba and Hon. Soneye Damilola Kayode.
He said continued support for the APC candidates would help sustain development and effective representation at the federal and state levels.
OSOBA, OTHERS REAFFIRM COMMITMENT
The Member representing Obafemi Owode/Ifo Federal Constituency, Hon. Olumide Osoba, assured the CDC and residents of his continued commitment to facilitating infrastructure and other developmental interventions across communities, Community Development Associations (CDAs) and CDCs within the local government.
Osoba said community development remained essential to improving the welfare and living conditions of residents, pledging to continue supporting initiatives capable of producing tangible benefits for the people.
In a related development, the Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Amb. Adesina 'Lanre Ogunsola, announced the approval of a dedicated bus stop for the Zonal CDC Secretariat.
The council boss described the decision as part of efforts to support the community development initiative and improve accessibility to the newly constructed facility.
The ceremony attracted community leaders, CDC and CDA executives, traditional leaders, political stakeholders, government officials and residents, who gathered to celebrate the completion of the project and reaffirm their commitment to community development and good governance.
The event also provided an opportunity for political stakeholders to intensify engagement with grassroots leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.
