Two Nigerian nationals have been sentenced to seven years in prison after being convicted over an armed r%bbery at a currency exchange shop in Kuwait.
The suspects were arrested by the Kuwait General Department of Criminal Investigation in Ahmadi Governorate following investigations into the r%bbery and theft at a money exchange shop in Mahboula in January 2025.
On Monday, July 20, 2026, the Kuwait Court of Appeal upheld the prison sentences, affirming an earlier judgment that found the defendants guilty in connection with the r%bbery.
The Second Circuit of the Court of Appeal, headed by Counselor Nasr Salem Al-Haid alongside Counselors Mutaib Al-Aradhi and Saud Al-Sane, upheld the ruling against members of the Nigerian gang linked to the crime.
According to the Public Prosecution, the first four defendants conspired to rob the exchange shop. Prosecutors alleged that the second defendant used a fake g¥n during the operation, enabling the third and fourth defendants to ste@l the money with the assistance of the first defendant.
The fifth defendant was accused of collaborating with the group by agreeing to participate in the crime, helping conceal the stolen money, and distributing the proceeds obtained from the robbery.
The Criminal Court had earlier sentenced the first and fifth defendants in person, while the remaining defendants were convicted and sentenced in absentia. The court imposed seven-year prison terms on the first four defendants and sentenced the fifth defendant to six months’ imprisonment after amending the charges.
The Court of Appeal has now affirmed the judgment, bringing the case to a close.
