The Ogun State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against crime with the dismantling of a suspected cattle theft syndicate in Sagamu and the successful foiling of a suspected abduction attempt along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The operations, carried out by operatives of the Sagamu Police Division and the Command's Safer Highway Patrol Team, resulted in the arrest of two suspects, the recovery of six stolen cows, the seizure of a vehicle allegedly used for criminal operations, and the rescue of a victim from a suspected kidnap attempt without injury.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Sagamu Division acted swiftly after receiving a distress call in the early hours of July 25, 2026, that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and stolen seven cows.
Following the report, police operatives immediately launched coordinated patrols along identified escape routes while acting on credible intelligence.
The operation paid off when officers intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway, frustrating the suspects' escape.
The police arrested two suspects identified as Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, recovered six of the seven stolen cows, and seized a blue Nissan Cabster bus believed to have been used by the syndicate during the operation.
The Command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang, recover the remaining stolen cow, and ensure the prosecution of everyone connected with the crime.
In a separate operation on July 26, 2026, at about 7:10 p.m., operatives attached to the Command's Safer Highway Patrol Team thwarted a suspected abduction attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The officers, who were on routine confidence-building patrol, reportedly responded immediately after hearing gunshots from the area.
Their prompt intervention forced the armed hoodlums to abandon their operation and flee into a nearby bush before they could carry out the suspected kidnapping.
The intended victim was rescued unharmed and escorted, alongside his vehicle, to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary police procedures.
Police authorities said calm was immediately restored to the area while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism, courage and vigilance, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, said the successful operations reflected the Command's strengthened operational capacity and unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities across the state.
He reaffirmed that the Command remains firmly in control of the security situation in Ogun State and will continue to enhance intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols and coordinated tactical operations to safeguard lives and property.
The Commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that every actionable report would receive immediate attention.
