Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, representing Nasarawa South, has again switched parties, dumping the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The defection letter was read on the Senate floor on Tuesday by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau.
In it, the lawmaker formally resigned his membership of the ADC in Galadima Ward, Doma Local Government Area, with effect from June 15.
Onawo said the decision followed wide consultations with his constituents, political associates and other stakeholders.
He cited the ADC’s internal crises and prolonged legal battles as key factors that made the party unsuitable for effective representation.
“This decision is the outcome of careful reflection and wide-ranging consultations... the prevailing circumstances within the current party structure and the endless legal battle it is currently embroiled in no longer offer the cohesion, support, and enabling environment required,” the letter stated.
He expressed appreciation to his supporters and announced his new alignment with the APM.
This latest move comes barely weeks after Onawo left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ADC in March alongside eight other senators.
