Content creator DJ Chicken has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after pleading not guilty to charges stemming from a viral video in which he allegedly thr£athened Seyi Tinubu while commenting on the 2027 presidential election.
According to the prosecution, the video, shared on his social media platforms last week, contained statements interpreted as a thr£ath to k+ll Seyi Tinubu, an offence said to violate the Criminal Law of Lagos State and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
Following widespread public backlash, DJ Chicken posted another video retracting the remarks, insisting they were merely a joke intended to attract attention.
Despite the apology and retraction, the Lagos State Government proceeded with criminal charges.
The first count alleges that he posted a video containing a thr£ath to k+ll Seyi Tinubu through his social media accounts, contrary to Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The second count accuses him of transmitting a grossly off£nsive and menacing message through a computer network, contrary to Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act, 2015.
The third count alleges that his actions were likely to cause a breach of the peace and were intended to intimidate or emb@rass Seyi Tinubu, contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Magistrate M.F. Onamusi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. The court ruled that one surety must be a government employee, while the other must be a recognised community leader with landed property in Lagos State.
Both are also required to present three years’ tax clearance, LASRRA identification, a National Identification Number (NIN), and recent utility bills. One of the sureties must also be a blood relative of the defendant.
Pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions, the court ordered that DJ Chicken remain in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
The case was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
