SANGO-OTA, OGUN STATE – Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have arrested a 43-year-old man, Abraham Michael, over allegations of abducting and sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in the Gasline area of Sango-Ota, Ogun State.
The victim, identified as Miss Liasu Pelumi, was rescued during a coordinated operation carried out by operatives of the Sango-Adalemo-Toll Gate Divisional Headquarters following a distress call from the Shepherd-in-Charge of the Celestial Church of Christ, Christ Light Parish, Ijoko, Pastor Oluwaseyi Popoola.
The State Commander of the Corps, Commander (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, disclosed the development in a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the agency, Assistant Commander of Corps (ACC) Adegunwa Adegbuyi.
According to the statement, the Divisional Officer in charge of the Sango-Adalemo-Toll Gate Division, SC Okunuga Joseph, received credible information at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from Pastor Popoola regarding the disappearance of the 19-year-old woman, who had been under his care.
The cleric reportedly informed the Corps that the victim had been missing for several days. While efforts were underway to locate her, he allegedly received a telephone call from an unidentified individual demanding a ransom of ₦60,000 for her release.
Acting promptly on the information and a tip-off provided by a vigilant member of the community, operatives of the So-Safe Corps, with the approval of the Zonal Commander, Ado-Odo/Ota Zonal Command, ACC Tajudeen Odunmbaku, launched an operation to the suspect's residence located on Idowu Akinsanya Street, along Babaonigba, Gasline Road, Sango.
The statement said that upon the arrival of the operatives, the suspect allegedly attempted to mislead security personnel by diverting their attention from the actual location where the victim was being held. However, the officers remained focused on the intelligence available to them, leading to the successful rescue of the young woman and the arrest of the suspect.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed that the victim had been in his custody since July 2, 2026.
Authorities also alleged that the suspect is being investigated in connection with allegations of abduction and rape.
The So-Safe Corps said the matter has since been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Sango Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with established procedures.
Commander Ganzallo reaffirmed the Corps' commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ogun State, stressing that the agency would continue to respond swiftly to credible intelligence and distress calls.
He also appealed to residents to remain security-conscious and promptly report suspicious movements, criminal activities and other threats within their communities, noting that timely information from members of the public remains crucial in combating crime.
The arrest is the latest in a series of operations by the Ogun State So-Safe Corps aimed at strengthening community security and supporting other law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime across the state. Meanwhile, police investigations are expected to determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offences and ensure that justice is served.
