
We reported that the students were kidnapped on Monday while writing the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination before troops, supported by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai, launched a search-and-rescue operation.
In a statement, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, said troops engaged the fleeing terrorists in a gun battle around Daggu, leading to the rescue of the students.
The military, however, said one soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed during the operation.
According to the statement, the rescued students were unharmed and are receiving care, while efforts continue to rescue the remaining abductee. Troops also recovered seven motorcycles used by the attackers after inflicting casualties on the terrorists.
