The endorsement, which political observers have described as a major step in the party’s preparations for the next electoral cycle, took place during a well-attended gathering of party stakeholders, including members of the Ogun State PDP Executive Committee, leaders from across the state, and executives of the Ogun Central Senatorial District.

The event served as a platform for party leaders to publicly express their confidence in Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo’s leadership capacity, integrity, and longstanding commitment to community development and public service.

Widely respected as the Iya Sunnah of Egbaland and the First Ameerah General of Ogun State, Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo was praised by party stakeholders as a distinguished administrator, accomplished scholar, and grassroots mobilizer whose contributions have positively impacted education, women empowerment, youth development, and religious harmony.

Speaking at the gathering, party leaders described her emergence as a reflection of the collective aspirations of PDP members who seek an inclusive, progressive, and people-focused government in Ogun State.

According to the district executives, Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo possesses the intellectual depth, administrative experience, and broad-based appeal required to support a future PDP administration in delivering effective governance and sustainable development across the state.

“Her track record of service, commitment to the welfare of the people, and ability to connect with diverse communities make her exceptionally qualified for this responsibility,” one of the party leaders stated.

The endorsement was greeted with enthusiasm by party members who see it as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the PDP’s prospects in the 2027 elections.

Responding to the endorsement, Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo expressed profound appreciation to the party leadership and members for the confidence reposed in her.

She described the endorsement as both an honour and a call to greater service, pledging to remain committed to the ideals of the party and the development of Ogun State.

“I am deeply honoured and sincerely grateful to the leadership and members of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, for this overwhelming vote of confidence. I accept this responsibility with humility, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the progress of Ogun State and the success of our party,” she said.

Reflecting on the outcome of the last governorship election in the state, Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo maintained that the PDP enjoyed substantial support from the electorate and remains optimistic about the future.

“The people of Ogun State made their voices heard during the last governorship election, and we remain convinced that the PDP enjoyed the mandate and overwhelming support of the electorate. While circumstances denied the people the outcome they desired, we remain resolute, focused, and determined,” she stated.

Looking ahead to the 2027 polls, the PDP stalwart expressed confidence that the party would secure victory, citing growing public demand for responsive and people-oriented governance.

“I have absolute confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party will emerge victorious in 2027. The people of Ogun State are yearning for a government that truly understands their struggles, prioritizes their welfare, and delivers meaningful development. The PDP remains that credible alternative,” she declared.

Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo further assured residents that a PDP-led administration would prioritize policies aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens, particularly in the areas of youth empowerment, women development, education, infrastructure, and economic growth.

She emphasized that governance should be centered on the needs and aspirations of the people and promised that the party would pursue programmes capable of delivering tangible benefits across all sectors.

“I want to assure all party faithful and the good people of Ogun State that come 2027, our state will witness greatness like never before and enjoy the true dividends of democracy. We shall pursue policies that empower our youths, support women, improve infrastructure, strengthen education, create economic opportunities, and ensure that governance serves the interests of the people,” she said.

Calling for greater unity within the party, she urged members and supporters to work collectively toward achieving the PDP’s political objectives in the state.

“This is the time for unity, commitment, and collective action. Together, we shall work tirelessly to reclaim Ogun State and build a future of hope, prosperity, and sustainable development for all,” she added.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ogun Central PDP leadership appealed to party members, supporters, and residents of Ogun State to rally behind the aspiration and vision of the party as preparations begin in earnest for the 2027 governorship election.

Political analysts note that the endorsement of Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo marks an early indication of the PDP’s determination to consolidate its structures and strengthen its electoral strategy ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested governorship race.

For many party faithful, the endorsement represents not only a recognition of Dr. Sowunmi Kolapo’s achievements and leadership credentials but also a statement of intent by the PDP to present a formidable and inclusive team capable of providing what it describes as a new direction for Ogun State.
