Drake Wins N1.3bn Bet On Canada’s World Cup Victory

Canadian rapper Drake has pocketed more than N1.3 billion after correctly backing Canada to defeat South Africa in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash.

The Grammy-winning artist reportedly staked $770,000 on a Canadian victory, with the wager returning a total payout of $1.001 million and a profit of about $231,000.

Drake revealed the bet on Instagram before the match, saying it was inspired by a private exchange with South African DJ Black Coffee.

Canada sealed a 1-0 victory over South Africa at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, with Stephen Eustáquio scoring a stoppage-time winner to send the co-hosts into the Round of 16 for the first time in FIFA World Cup history.

The defeat ended South Africa’s impressive campaign under Hugo Broos, while Drake added another successful wager to his growing record as one of the world’s best-known celebrity sports bettors.
