The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State on Friday demonstrated what party leaders described as a strong display of internal unity and grassroots mobilization as delegates across the 11 wards unanimously elected Engr. Adeboye Peter Badejo as the party’s candidate for the Ijebu East State Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 Ogun State House of Assembly election.
The primary election, held on May 22, witnessed a significant turnout despite persistent rainfall across the local government area, as party members converged on various ward secretariats to participate in the process.
Observers within the party described the exercise as peaceful, orderly and reflective of renewed confidence among members as the PDP begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Delegates and party faithful across the constituency overwhelmingly endorsed Badejo, a seasoned engineer and grassroots mobilizer, in what party officials said was a clear indication of the confidence reposed in his leadership capacity, technical background and longstanding involvement in community development initiatives.
Party leaders noted that his emergence was not merely a political victory but a statement of intent by the PDP to present what they described as tested and people-oriented leadership for the constituency.
The exercise, according to party officials, also highlighted the determination of members to reposition the PDP as a formidable political force in Ijebu East.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Badejo expressed gratitude to the party leadership, delegates and members for the confidence placed in him, assuring them that he would not betray the trust reposed in him.
He pledged to run an issue-based campaign centered on development and people-focused policies aimed at improving the lives of residents across the constituency.
According to him, his legislative agenda would prioritize infrastructure development, youth empowerment, accountable representation and economic revitalization.
He said attention would be given to roads, educational facilities and healthcare infrastructure serving both rural and urban communities, while also creating opportunities for young people through skills acquisition programmes, entrepreneurship support and legislative interventions.
Badejo further promised transparent and responsive representation that would bring governance and democratic dividends closer to the people.
He also stressed the importance of agricultural development and support for local businesses as part of broader efforts to stimulate economic growth in Ijebu East.
“This victory does not belong to me alone. It belongs to every PDP member in Ward 1 to Ward 11 who stood in the rain to defend the future of Ijebu East,” he said.
“Today, you have shown that Ijebu East is ready for tested leadership, real development and true representation. I pledge not to betray this trust.”
In a message directed at party leaders and stakeholders, the PDP candidate also called for greater inclusiveness and collective participation as preparations begin for the next election cycle.
He emphasized that political success would require collaboration and unity among all groups within the party.
“Victory to one is victory to all,” he stated.
The leadership of the PDP in Ijebu East commended members of the electoral committee, security personnel and party faithful for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible process.
