Ogun State Governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun - MFR , has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to improve electricity supply across the state through stronger partnerships with key players in the power sector and strategic investments in critical infrastructure.
The governor made this known while receiving the Chairman of SIFAX Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, alongside the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), Mr. Deolu Ijose, during a high-level engagement focused on enhancing power distribution, expanding access to electricity and supporting industrial growth across Ogun State.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that reliable electricity remains central to economic development, business expansion, job creation, and improved living standards, noting that his administration will continue to pursue initiatives capable of delivering sustainable power supply to homes, businesses and industrial clusters across the state.
He, however, expressed concern over the increasing incidents of vandalism targeting electricity installations and other public facilities, describing the trend as a direct threat to economic progress and public service delivery.
According to the governor, the destruction of power infrastructure not only disrupts electricity supply but also imposes huge financial burdens on government and service providers, ultimately affecting residents and businesses that depend on stable power for their daily activities.
To curb the menace, Governor Abiodun disclosed that the state government has directed the Office of the Attorney General to develop a more robust legal framework that will impose stricter penalties on individuals involved in vandalising public infrastructure, particularly electricity facilities.
He stressed that protecting critical assets is a collective responsibility and called on residents, community leaders and stakeholders to remain vigilant and support efforts aimed at safeguarding government investments across the state.
The governor further reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with IBEDC, private investors and other stakeholders in the energy sector to strengthen power infrastructure, improve electricity distribution and create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
He expressed confidence that sustained collaboration and strategic interventions in the power sector would further boost industrial productivity, attract investments, enhance the ease of doing business, and consolidate Ogun State’s status as Nigeria’s foremost industrial destination.
