Residents of Yewa North and Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency received a significant boost on Tuesday as the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, popularly known as GNI, officially flagged off the distribution of 5,500 food support packages to households across the two local government areas.
The intervention, described as a strategic humanitarian initiative, is aimed at cushioning the economic challenges facing residents and providing relief to vulnerable families within the constituency.
The official flag-off ceremony took place at Tijani Isiaka Hall in Imeko, where political leaders, community stakeholders, party faithful and residents gathered in large numbers to witness the exercise. Simultaneous distribution of the food packages was also conducted across various communities in Yewa North to ensure broad reach and effective delivery to beneficiaries.
The event attracted prominent leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from across the constituency. Among those in attendance were the Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government, Hon. Theophilus Olorode, alongside Dr. Dele Ogunsiji, Chief Mrs. Mary Ogunjobi, and Chief Lisa Paul Adejobi, among several party leaders, traditional figures and supporters.
Speaking at the event, stakeholders commended the intervention, noting that the initiative would provide much-needed support to families facing economic hardship. They also described the programme as a demonstration of responsive representation and people-focused leadership.
Shortly after the food distribution exercise, attention shifted to another major development initiative as dignitaries proceeded to the groundbreaking and foundation laying ceremony for the Construction and Equipping of the Mini Stadium and Sports Complex in Imeko, Ogun State, under its take-off phase involving multiple project lots.
The proposed sports complex is expected to become a major catalyst for youth empowerment and grassroots development within the constituency. Observers noted that the project would not only encourage sporting activities and talent discovery but would also create opportunities for community interaction and stimulate economic activities in the area.
Community leaders and residents expressed optimism that the project would open new pathways for youth engagement while strengthening social and economic development across the constituency.
The landmark ceremony attracted several traditional rulers led by HRM Oba (Dr.) Benjamin Olanite, the Onimeko of Imeko, who joined political stakeholders and residents in commemorating the commencement of the project.
The twin initiatives — the food intervention programme and the sports infrastructure project — were widely viewed by attendees as major steps toward addressing immediate social needs while simultaneously investing in the long-term development aspirations of the Yewa North and Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency.
As residents welcomed the interventions, many expressed hope that the projects would bring lasting impact and further strengthen development efforts across the constituency.
