Sagamu, Ogun State — The Executive Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Ogbeni Jubril Olasile Odulate, has reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security across the local government area, declaring that “the peace of Sagamu is non-negotiable.”
This assertion was made following the monthly statutory security meeting held earlier today, where key stakeholders reviewed the overall security situation and addressed emerging threats to public safety.
According to the Chairman, Sagamu remains largely peaceful, with no major security breaches recorded in recent times. However, the meeting paid close attention to recent unrest linked to grievances among commercial motorcycle operators, noting that proactive steps have already been taken to restore calm and prevent escalation.
Despite the generally stable environment, the council expressed concern over isolated but troubling incidents, including motorcycle snatching, burglary, theft, and cases of jungle justice. The Chairman strongly condemned acts of self-help, emphasizing that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands under any circumstance.
“We must uphold the rule of law at all times. I urge residents to report all suspicious activities and criminal acts to the appropriate security agencies rather than resorting to unlawful actions,” he stated.
A major highlight of the meeting was the growing concern over drug abuse, which is increasingly affecting both youths and adults in the community. Security and regulatory agencies have intensified their crackdown on drug-related activities, including targeted raids on identified hotspots. The Chairman called on community leaders, traditional institutions, and other stakeholders to support these efforts by providing credible and timely intelligence.
He further stressed the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring community safety, reiterating the principle of “see something, say something” as a critical tool in crime prevention.
The Chairman also commended the coordinated efforts of security agencies operating within the local government for their professionalism, swift response to incidents, and dedication to duty. To enhance operational efficiency, he announced that the Joint Task Force will now function under a standing order framework designed to guarantee rapid response during emergencies.
“As a government, we will continue to strengthen our security architecture, but lasting peace requires the cooperation of every resident. Security is everyone’s business,” he added.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call for vigilance, unity, and sustained collaboration between government, security agencies, and the public to ensure Sagamu remains a safe and stable environment for all.
