The ancient town of Ijebu-Ode came alive with energy, purpose, and celebration as women from across Ogun State gathered to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day in a grand event that underscored unity, empowerment, and collective progress.
Organised by the Ogun State Government through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, the event attracted a distinguished assembly of female leaders, professionals, grassroots mobilisers, and aspiring young girls, all united by a shared vision for a more inclusive society.
Among the prominent figures in attendance was Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, Member of the House of Representatives representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, who described her participation as both an honour and a profound privilege.
The event also featured the presence of the First Lady of Ogun State, Bamidele Abiodun, alongside the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, as well as women leaders from all 20 local government areas and key stakeholders across the Southwest.
Addressing the gathering, Ayoola-Elegbeji delivered a heartfelt message inspired by the 2026 theme, “Give To Gain,” emphasizing the transformative power of generosity, mentorship, and collaboration among women.
She spoke passionately not only to the accomplished women in attendance but also to the young girls present, encouraging them to believe in their potential despite challenges or self-doubt.
“Every act of giving—whether through mentorship, education, advocacy, or simple encouragement—creates a ripple effect that uplifts us all,” she noted. “When we support one another, we unlock opportunities and build stronger, more resilient communities.”
Her remarks resonated deeply with the audience, particularly as she highlighted the importance of creating pathways for the next generation of female leaders.
Ayoola-Elegbeji also commended the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat Adeleye, for her exceptional leadership in organising what many described as a highly impactful and well-coordinated event.
She further expressed appreciation to the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, acknowledging his administration’s consistent efforts in promoting gender inclusion and advancing women’s empowerment through strategic initiatives.
Programmes such as the Nigeria for Women Project and the Oko’Owo Dapo scheme were highlighted as key interventions that continue to improve economic opportunities and social inclusion for women across the state.
The atmosphere throughout the event remained vibrant, marked by cultural displays, networking sessions, and inspiring testimonies that reflected the resilience, strength, and determination of Ogun women.
