As the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent commence today, the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, FNSE, has called on residents of Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency, in Ogun State, and Nigerians at large to embrace prayers, self-discipline, and compassion for one another.
Engr. Oludotun made this known in his message to mark the beginning of the two sacred periods observed by Muslims and Christians.
The commissioner described Ramadan and Lent as seasons of deep reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal, urging adherents of both faiths to use the period to seek divine guidance for personal growth and national development.
Oludotun, who is also an aspirant for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections, stressed that the lessons of patience, humility, love, and selflessness associated with the fasting periods are values urgently needed in leadership and governance.
He called on Nigerians to pray for peace, unity, and stability across communities, saying that religious harmony remains one of the country’s greatest strengths.
According to him, the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent is a reminder of shared values that should continue to bind citizens together irrespective of faith.
Engr. Oludotun also used the medium to encourage citizens to extend kindness to the less privileged, promote peaceful coexistence, and avoid actions capable of undermining harmony in society, particularly at a time when the nation is in need of healing and collective progress.
He prayed for strength and good health for all faithful observing the fasts and expressed optimism that the prayers offered during the period would usher in renewed hope, peace, and development for Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
The Forestry Commissioner therefore wished Muslims and Christians a spiritually rewarding Ramadan and Lenten season, calling on all to remain united and committed to building a better society.
