Governors and key national stakeholders have reaffirmed their commitment to driving inclusive growth and sustainable development across Nigeria, following robust deliberations at the second edition of the National Economic Council (NEC) Conference held in Abuja.
The high-level gathering, which took place at the State House Conference Centre, brought together state governors, federal officials, development partners, private-sector leaders, and policy experts to chart pathways for delivering shared prosperity under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope National Development Plan.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who spoke on behalf of subnational governments, said state administrations remain resolute in implementing policies and programmes that promote economic resilience, expand opportunities for citizens, and ensure that growth reaches all segments of society.
He noted that the conference provided a valuable platform for subnational leaders to exchange ideas and strengthen collaboration with the Federal Government and other stakeholders in pursuit of sustainable national development.
“This forum has further reinforced our collective resolve to deepen inclusive growth, strengthen our subnational economies, and ensure that development outcomes translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians,” Abiodun said. “We are committed to aligning our state-level policies with the broader national agenda to build a more resilient and prosperous country.”
Deliberations at the conference centred on strategies to strengthen subnational economies and accelerate development through targeted investments, infrastructure expansion, and productivity-driven reforms. Participants highlighted the need for stronger coordination between federal and state governments to ensure effective implementation of the Renewed Hope plan and to maximize the impact of development initiatives across all regions.
Stakeholders also discussed ways to leverage innovation, technology, and public-private partnerships to drive economic transformation. Emphasis was placed on creating an enabling environment for investment, improving access to finance for small and medium enterprises, and expanding job opportunities—particularly for youth and women.
Panel sessions examined the importance of aligning fiscal policies, enhancing revenue generation at the state level, and improving service delivery to ensure that growth translates into measurable improvements in living standards. Participants stressed that inclusive development must prioritise social protection, education, healthcare, and infrastructure that supports both urban and rural communities.
Speakers at the conference further underscored the importance of data-driven planning, accountability, and transparency in governance to sustain public trust and achieve long-term development goals. They called for sustained collaboration among all tiers of government and the private sector to unlock Nigeria’s economic potential.
The NEC Conference, now in its second edition, is expected to serve as a recurring platform for dialogue and coordination among policymakers and development stakeholders. Observers say the outcomes of the meeting could shape policy direction and strengthen cooperation as Nigeria pursues economic stability, social inclusion, and sustainable growth under the Renewed Hope framework.
