The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday swiftly neutralised a security threat targeted at two prominent private schools in Ikeja, following an intelligence-driven operation personally led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., when the Human Resources Manager and the Chief Security Officer of the affected schools separately reported to the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters that they had received disturbing threat messages via WhatsApp. The messages, which originated from the same unknown phone number, raised serious security concerns and prompted immediate police action.
Upon receiving the distress reports, CP Jimoh promptly mobilised a high-powered team of police operatives and personally led them to the school premises for an on-the-spot security assessment. The team comprised experts from the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and other tactical units.
A thorough and painstaking sweep of the entire school environment was conducted by the EOD-CBRN experts. The search covered classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds, and the surrounding areas to rule out the presence of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or any other suspicious or hazardous materials. After the extensive exercise, no explosive or dangerous device was found, and the schools were subsequently declared safe for normal academic and administrative activities.
In a decisive follow-up, the Commissioner of Police ordered an intensified investigation to trace, identify, and apprehend the individual or group behind the threat messages, with a view to prosecuting them in accordance with the law. To further reassure the school communities, combined teams of police personnel have been strategically deployed on a permanent basis to the affected schools to provide round-the-clock security for students, staff, and facilities.
The Lagos State Police Command has assured parents, guardians, school authorities, and the general public of its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
