All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Ogun State, Alhaji Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, popularly known as OMO-ADE, has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun, CON, for reinforcing grassroots governance with the presentation of Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to chairmen of the 20 local government areas in the state.
Alhaji Adebayo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the governor’s unwavering commitment to strengthening local administration and bringing governance closer to the people at the grassroots.
Governor Abiodun presented the vehicles in Abeokuta as part of activities marking the Christmas festivities, fulfilling his promise to equip local councils with the necessary tools to enhance efficiency and service delivery. The governor noted that effective local governance remains a cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Ganiyu Hamzat, the governor commended the performance of the local government chairmen, acknowledging their roles in delivering tangible dividends of democracy across communities. He emphasized that seamless collaboration between the state and local governments is crucial to improving the welfare and quality of life of residents throughout Ogun State.
According to the governor, the provision of the SUVs would enhance mobility, strengthen supervision of projects, and ensure that council chairmen remain accessible to the people, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
In his reaction, Alhaji Adebayo praised Governor Abiodun’s leadership style, describing the move as timely, strategic, and people-oriented. He said the initiative would further empower local government administrations to respond swiftly to the needs of their constituents.
“This intervention clearly shows that Governor Dapo Abiodun understands the importance of grassroots governance. By equipping local government chairmen with these vehicles, he has demonstrated practical leadership and deep concern for effective service delivery,” OMO-ADE said.
Responding on behalf of the council chairmen, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun State chapter, Dr. Mrs. Afolasade Adeyemo, expressed profound appreciation to the governor, describing the gesture as highly commendable. She noted that the vehicles would significantly improve access to rural communities and enhance monitoring of developmental projects.
Dr. Adeyemo also highlighted the governor’s achievements in key sectors such as education, housing, healthcare, and road infrastructure, reaffirming the loyalty and support of local government chairmen for the Abiodun administration’s development agenda.
She assured that the chairmen would make judicious use of the vehicles to further justify the confidence reposed in them by the governor and the people of Ogun State.
The presentation of the SUVs has been widely applauded by political stakeholders and residents, who see it as another step toward deepening grassroots development and inclusive governance under the Abiodun-led administration.
