The Executive Chairman of Obafemi-Owode Local Government, Amb. Lanrewaju Adesina Ogunsola, has reassured residents of the council area that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of six marketers abducted last Friday in Oyebola village.
Ogunsola, in a statement on Monday, said the local government is in close collaboration with the Ogun State Police Command and other security formations to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims unharmed.
“We understand the fears of our people, and we want to assure everyone that we are not leaving any stone unturned. The council is working hand-in-hand with the Police headquarters, and efforts are ongoing round the clock. We are confident the abducted individuals will be rescued safely,” the chairman stated.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, also confirmed the incident on Sunday, revealing that the victims—marketers working with a Lagos-based real estate firm—were seized during an inspection tour of the company’s land in Oyebola village.
“It was during their visit to this land that the six people were abducted. It happened on Friday, and the command has been on it since. We shall definitely ensure that these people regain their freedom,” Ogunlowo assured.
A resident of a neighbouring community, who requested anonymity, had initially alerted reporters to the attack shortly after it occurred.
Meanwhile, security presence has been heightened across communities within the local government as authorities urge residents to remain calm and report suspicious movements.
Both the council and the police have appealed for cooperation from the public as investigations continue, reiterating their commitment to restoring peace and safeguarding lives and property in the area.
