Osogbo — The Osun State Police Command has uncovered the shocking circumstances behind the deaths of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, Lasisi Funmilayo, and her young daughter, Sewa — a case that rattled both Ogun and Osun communities after the pair were declared missing and later found dead.
The prime suspect, 40-year-old businessman Victor Fajemirokun, who had initially fled Nigeria, was arrested in Ghana through Interpol collaboration and repatriated to face investigation. He was paraded on Wednesday in Osogbo alongside two herbalists, Gboyega Daramola and Sunday James, whom police identified as co-conspirators.
‘I Was Told She Used My Glory’ — Victor Gives His Motive
Speaking to journalists, Fajemirokun admitted that he lured Funmilayo from Ogun State to Osun after a self-styled cleric allegedly told him the deceased was spiritually responsible for his misfortunes.
He said he met Daramola online and travelled with Funmilayo and her daughter to Ijebu-Ijesa under the guise of seeking spiritual help. According to him, events spiralled once they arrived, leading to the victims being taken away under the pretext of performing rituals.
Fajemirokun claimed he fled shortly afterwards, insisting he acted under influence and did not initially understand the deadly intent behind the encounter.
Herbalists’ Accounts Deepen the Mystery
One of the suspects, Sunday James, told reporters that he acted under instructions from his superior, Daramola. He alleged that Fajemirokun wanted to harm the deceased, believing she had spiritually hindered him.
Daramola, however, denied direct involvement in the killing, stating that Fajemirokun was the initiator of the plan. Police say investigations will determine the truth.
Police Reveal How the Case Was Cracked
Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Gotan, described the breakthrough as the result of intelligence-led investigation.
According to the CP:
- Funmilayo and her daughter were declared missing in Ogun State.
- Investigators discovered that the pair had travelled with Fajemirokun to Osun.
- A key arrest on November 16 led police to a remote location where Funmilayo’s remains were recovered.
- Additional investigation led to the recovery of Sewa’s remains at another site.
- Vital parts were missing from both bodies, leading investigators to suspect ritual motives.
- Interpol later tracked and arrested Fajemirokun in Ghana before returning him to Nigeria.
Gotan added that two other suspects mentioned in the case are still at large, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
Justice Assured
The Commissioner emphasized that all arrested suspects will face full prosecution once investigations are complete. He assured the public that the police remain committed to dismantling criminal networks exploiting superstition for violent acts.
Funmilayo, a respected FRSC officer serving in Ogun State, and her daughter have been mourned widely, with calls for stronger community awareness against manipulative “spiritual” schemes.
