Fubara Pays Condolence Visit to Diri Over Deputy Governor's Death

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, on Sunday paid a condolence visit to his Bayelsa State counterpart, Senator Douye Diri, following the sudden death of Bayelsa's Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.


The visit took place at the Government House in Yenagoa, where Governor Fubara personally commiserated with Governor Diri over the loss.Senator Ewhrudjakpo, aged 60, passed away suddenly on December 11, 2025, after collapsing in his office. 


He had served as Deputy Governor since 2020, having previously been a Senator representing Bayelsa West and Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure.


In a statement personally signed earlier, Governor Fubara described the late Ewhrudjakpo as a man of rare calibre, whose exemplary public service combined intellect with humility. 


He noted that the news of the passing had caused collective mourning across borders, extending deepest condolences on behalf of the government and people of Rivers State.

"The sad news resonates across our borders, leaving us in a state of collective mourning alongside our brothers and sisters in Bayelsa State," Fubara stated.
