In a significant move aimed at restoring peace and stability in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, the Legislative Council has formally lifted the suspension earlier placed on the Executive Chairman, Alhaji Wasiu Lawal Adewale, FCA, following a resolution passed during plenary on Thursday, October 31, 2025.
The decision, announced by the Leader of the House, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji, ACA, ACIB, came after the intervention of prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political stakeholders who mediated in the dispute between the Executive and Legislative arms of the Local Government.
Reconciliation Through Party Mediation
Hon. Akanji, in his address to the Council, recalled that the suspension of the Executive Chairman was earlier enacted in line with the House’s constitutional oversight responsibilities, citing concerns bordering on transparency, accountability, and administrative conduct.
However, he noted that the matter had been amicably resolved through the intervention of top APC leaders, including the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele; Member representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Engr. Hon. Tunji Akinosi; Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sessan Fagbayi; Chief Aiyedogbon; Hon. Lai Taiwo; Hon. Kazeem Salako; and the APC Party Chairman, Hon. JJ Akeran, Chief Jide Ojuko, Former Commissioner for chieftaincy affairs in Ogun state.
“These respected leaders, alongside other elders of our great party, provided the fatherly and motherly guidance that has brought about reconciliation and mutual understanding,” the House Leader stated.
Compliance and Restoration of Normalcy
According to Hon. Akanji, the House’s decision to lift the suspension followed the Executive Chairman’s compliance with one of the key resolutions earlier issued by the Council—the presentation of the Income and Expenditure Account of the Local Government.
Following the resolution, the Acting Chairman, Hon. Abosede Balogun, formally handed over the reins of the Local Government back to Alhaji Wasiu Lawal Adewale in a ceremony witnessed by the party leadership and stakeholders.
Describing the moment as symbolic, Hon. Akanji said the handover signified “a return to normalcy and a renewed commitment to collective service and grassroots development.”
Commitment to Accountability and Collaboration
The House Leader emphasized that the decision was taken in the overall interest of peace, progress, and unity in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.
“We believe that through renewed cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms, we can deliver the dividends of democracy to our people and restore confidence in grassroots governance,” he said.
He further stressed that while the Legislative Council remains committed to collaboration with the Executive, it would continue to uphold its constitutional duty of ensuring accountability, transparency, and good governance in the affairs of the Local Government.
“Let it be clearly stated that this House remains steadfast in its mandate to protect public interest and promote effective administration guided by the rule of law,” he added.
Appreciation to Party Leaders and Stakeholders
On behalf of the entire Council, Hon. Akanji extended heartfelt appreciation to all APC leaders, stakeholders, and mediators who facilitated the peaceful resolution of the impasse.
“May this mark the beginning of a stronger, more united, and more effective Local Government administration,” he concluded.
A Fresh Start for Grassroots Governance
The lifting of the suspension and the restoration of Alhaji Wasiu Lawal Adewale to office have been widely described as a welcome development and a testament to the power of dialogue, party discipline, and internal conflict resolution within the APC structure in Ogun State.
Observers say the reconciliation offers an opportunity for both arms of the Local Government to work harmoniously toward improving infrastructure, empowering youths, and enhancing service delivery across Ado-Odo/Ota communities.
