......North-Central Leaders Blast Plateau APC Chiefs for “Selfish Agenda”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is on the brink of another major internal war as a bitter power struggle erupts over plans to woo Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The North-Central APC Forum has accused Plateau APC leaders of sabotaging high-level moves to bring Mutfwang into the ruling party, branding them as self-serving politicians more interested in positions than progress.
In a fiery statement issued in Abuja, forum chairman Saleh Zazzaga, a top member of the Tinubu campaign team, tore into the Plateau caucus, describing their recent anti-Mutfwang resolution as “a betrayal of the party’s long-term vision.”
“These are the same people who couldn’t deliver their polling units in 2023,” Zazzaga fumed. “Now they want to block a sitting governor who can strengthen the APC in Plateau. Their motive is personal, not patriotic.”
The backlash follows an October 17 stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, led by former APC Deputy National Secretary Festus Fuanter, where local party leaders rejected any plan to welcome Mutfwang into the APC fold.
But Zazzaga’s camp insists the move was purely political sabotage, noting that several of the signatories “performed woefully” in last year’s elections.
“The APC’s 2023 running mate in Plateau lost his polling unit and ward to the PDP by over 8,000 votes,” the forum stated. “Yet he’s now among those claiming to defend party integrity.”
The forum said it will continue to lobby Governor Mutfwang to “dump the sinking PDP,” claiming that influential figures in the Presidential Villa support the defection bid.
“We have Villa backing,” Zazzaga declared. “We will not stop until Mutfwang joins us — it’s in the best interest of Plateau and the APC.”
He also warned that President Bola Tinubu would soon know the true strength of his loyalists.
“After the next election, we’ll publish the polling unit results so Mr. President knows who really delivered,” he vowed.
The forum further accused Plateau APC leaders of ethnic favoritism and exclusion, arguing that the real question is about who can win elections, not where they come from.
“Only Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda delivered his local government for Tinubu in 2023 — that’s the kind of leadership Plateau needs,” the statement added.
The crisis underscores growing factional tension within the APC’s North-Central bloc, threatening to deepen the divide ahead of future elections.
