......As Abeokuta North Set for Economic Revival as Govt Begins Ita-Oshin Market Regeneration
In a bold move to boost trade, commerce, and urban renewal, the Abeokuta North Local Government has launched a comprehensive regeneration project aimed at restoring the Ita-Oshin market and motor park to its former glory.
The initiative, described as a major step toward transforming the area into a vibrant commercial hub, involves the sanitisation of the park, restructuring of market stalls, and the development of a new modern shopping complex — all part of the council’s first-year achievements under the leadership of its chairman.
Speaking during an inspection of the site, the Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon Lanre Oyegbola Sodipo reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to revitalising economic activities and improving the living standards of residents.
“One of our administration’s core commitments is to regenerate Abeokuta North through an improved flow of trade and commerce,” the chairman said.
“Today, we have taken a bold step to return Ita-Oshin to its past glory by sanitizing the park, opening it up to a new shopping complex, and restructuring the market stalls. This will pave the way for a modern shopping facility that will soon be commissioned as part of our first-year achievements.”
He added that the project reflects the local government’s alignment with the vision of the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, to promote inclusive development across the state.
“We stand firmly by the mandate of His Excellency, our leader and governor, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, to make Abeokuta North the cynosure of all eyes through innovative and transformative ideas,” he stated.
The new Ita-Oshin shopping complex, when completed, is expected to accommodate hundreds of traders and serve as a key commercial centre, creating jobs and boosting internally generated revenue for the local government.
Residents and market stakeholders have expressed optimism that the project will not only improve business operations but also enhance sanitation and orderliness in the area.
A trader, Mrs. Modupe Shonubi, commended the initiative, describing it as “a welcome development that will restore dignity and prosperity to local businesses.”
“We’ve waited long for this kind of change. A modern market means better business, better security, and a cleaner environment,” she said.
With the regeneration project now underway, Abeokuta North appears poised to reclaim its historic position as a centre of commerce and community life in Ogun State.
