Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on the international community to look beyond what he described as “negative and exaggerated narratives” about the nation’s security situation.

Speaking during an appearance on CNN, Idris said such portrayals are often driven by individuals with ulterior motives, and do not accurately reflect the realities on the ground. He urged the global audience to focus on Nigeria’s progress, particularly in the areas of peacebuilding, interfaith harmony, and security reform.

“Nigeria remains a nation of religious tolerance and coexistence,” the minister affirmed. “The federal government has made significant strides in protecting lives and property, and these efforts are yielding positive results across various regions.”

Idris outlined measures taken by the government to address insecurity, including enhanced collaboration among security agencies and more coordinated operations targeting criminal elements.

The minister’s remarks come as the federal government steps up its public diplomacy campaign aimed at reshaping international perceptions of Nigeria, which officials say have affected foreign investment and partnerships.

By highlighting recent gains, Idris said the administration hopes to project a more accurate image of Nigeria—one that reflects both its challenges and the steady progress being made toward lasting security and stability.
