Communities across Ilisan, Ilara, Akaka, and Ode-Remo in Ikenne and Remo North Local Government Areas of Ogun State are set to experience a long-awaited transformation, as construction on the Ilisan–Ilara–Akaka–Ode-Remo road nears completion.
The 12-kilometer road, awarded to Still Earth Construction and Realty Ltd by the Ogun State Government, has already recorded major milestones. At the Akaka end, a one-kilometer stretch of drainage and earthworks has been completed in readiness for stone base and asphalt layers. Asphalt work is also finished on the Ode-Remo–Akaka axis, as well as the Ilisan–Ilara–Akaka section.
During a tour of the project, the Regent of Akaka, Engr. Bola Awoderu, described the road as a lifeline that has restored hope to communities long neglected by successive administrations. According to him, Akaka had been cut off for years, with collapsing markets, farmers unable to transport produce, and dwindling social activity. He praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for fulfilling his campaign promise and ensuring the total reconstruction of the road, rather than a mere patchwork.
Engr. Awoderu further commended the governor for approving a satellite campus of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, in Akaka, as well as a World Bank-assisted RAMP project linking farmlands. “These three projects together will revive our economy, attract more people into our town, and give farmers better access to markets,” he said.
Echoing this view, the Chairman of the Akaka Development Council, Hon. Yemi Sobambo, noted that the road’s reach across four towns, coupled with the new polytechnic campus, would drive unprecedented development. Similarly, a resident, Evang. Jacob Ayanwale Taiwo, applauded the governor for honoring his promise and opening new opportunities for the town through both the RAMP project and the polytechnic approval.
With visible progress and multiple developmental projects converging, Akaka and its neighboring communities are on the cusp of a social and economic revival that will redefine Remoland’s future.
