
A state high court in Minna, Niger State, has sentenced 16-year-old Joy Afekafe to life imprisonment for her involvement in the m^rder of Dr. Mrs. Funmilayo Sherifat Adefolalu, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna.
The m8rder occurred on October 28, 2023, at Adefolalu's residence in Minna.
Joy Afekafe had been working as a housemaid for the deceased since October 2, 2023. She began stealing property and foreign currency from her employer, leading to her dismissal.
She enlisted the help of two friends, DJ Wallex and DJ Smart, to retaliate against her former employer. The group attacked and k!lled Adefolalu, stealing her belongings.
Joy was found guilty of armed robbery and culpable homicide, punishable under Sections 221 and 298 of the Penal Code.
Justice Mohammed Adishetu Mohammed delivered the judgment, stating that the prosecution had established both charges beyond reasonable doubt.
The court sentenced Joy Afekafe to life imprisonment, reflecting the severity of her crimes. The judgment aimed to uphold justice for the victim and her family.
