Premier League Confirms Start of 2025/26 Season, Welcomes Leeds, Burnley, and Sunderland

The Premier League officially kicked off the 2025/26 season following its Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday, June 4.

The administrative handover between seasons is now complete, with all 20 clubs including newly promoted Leeds United, Burnley, and Sunderland formally recognised as members of England’s top flight.

In a statement on its website, the League confirmed: “The change from the 2024/25 to the 2025/26 campaign has been formalised,” marking the legal start of the new season.

The three promoted clubs received Premier League share certificates, the final step in confirming their promotion. These certificates, signed by Premier League directors, officially enter the clubs into the League’s share register.

Conversely, relegated sides Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton have returned their share certificates, finalising their exit from the division.

With all clubs confirmed, the focus now shifts to the fixture release, scheduled for Wednesday, 18 June at 09:00 BST. The season will begin on Saturday, 16 August.

In preparation for the new campaign, the League has reset its official table and begun following the social media accounts of the three promoted clubs, symbolising their full integration into the top tier.

As pre-season preparations ramp up, clubs are unveiling summer schedules featuring friendly matches and international tours.

The countdown to another action-packed Premier League season  filled with fresh rivalries and renewed hopes, is officially underway.
