A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Monday, granted bail to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, in the sum of N2 billion.
Emefiele was arraigned on an eight-count charge, including allegations of unlawfully acquiring a 753-unit housing estate and stealing billions of naira.
To meet bail terms, Emefiele must produce two sureties who own property worth N2 billion in specific areas of the FCT (Aso, Maitama, or Wuse 2).
He must submit his travel documents to the court.
The bail must be perfected by next Wednesday, or he will be remanded in custody.
The judge noted that Emefiele had been granted bail in three other cases and had not jumped bail, which influenced the decision to grant bail in this case.
The case will proceed with the prosecution presenting its evidence, and Emefiele will have to defend himself against the allegations.
