The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has declared that the state is under siege from terrorists and bandits, citing recent attacks that have claimed several lives.
The governor made the declaration on Channels Television, stating that the attacks are well-planned, executed, and go beyond the usual herders-farmers clashes.
Governor Alia, revealed that the state receives daily intelligence reports, with 60-65% of them being accurate, indicating a high level of sophistication among the attackers.
He likened the attacks to guerrilla warfare, stating that the terrorists come in under the cover of night, hit, and run without leaving any trace.
The governor accused some serving politicians in the National Assembly of sponsoring the attacks, stating that an interim report from a judicial panel he set up has indicted some big names.
Governor Alia described the alleged involvement of politicians in the attacks as "extremely unacceptable" and vowed to take up the matter seriously once he receives the full report from the judicial panel, next week.
