United States President Donald Trump has announced a full and immediate ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, following days of intense military conflict involving airstrikes, drone attacks, missile launches, and artillery exchanges between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
Taking to his platform, Truth Social, President Trump said, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” applauding both nations for “using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”
The breakthrough reportedly came after extensive shuttle diplomacy by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance, who held direct talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as other senior officials from both countries.
Rubio confirmed the development on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.”
He praised both leaders for their decision to de-escalate:
“We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”
The agreement follows a sharp rise in hostilities, culminating in Pakistan launching retaliatory strikes on Saturday after three of its air bases were hit overnight. The situation had sparked international alarm over the risk of a broader conflict between the two nuclear powers.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has since confirmed the ceasefire agreement, while there has yet to be an official response from New Delhi.
The conflict had already triggered regional disruptions, including the indefinite suspension of the Indian Premier League and the closure of several Pakistani airports.
