Chairmanship candidates have emerged via consensus for four local council development areas (LCDAs) at the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) local government primaries in Lagos State.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Isa Jubril was affirmed for Iba LCDA, Mrs. Motunrayo Gbadebo for Ijede LCDA, Mr. Rasaq Kasali for Lekki LCDA, and Mr. Azeez Kareem for Otto Awori LCDA.
These candidates were unanimously affirmed by party delegates, with confirmation ceremonies held at the APC Secretariat in Ikeja. Meanwhile, voting was still in progress for other council areas at the time of filing this report.
Before voting commenced, Lagos Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat urged delegates to maintain order and conduct the process peacefully, reminding them that President Bola Tinubu was closely monitoring the exercise from Abuja.
“This is a serious responsibility,” Hamzat said. “Our president takes grassroots democracy seriously. Let’s stay calm and united.”
Chairman of the Lagos APC Electoral Committee, Mr. Babatunde Ogala, outlined the voting procedures.
He noted that delegates from areas with consensus candidates were prioritized for affirmation, while voting continued for councils with multiple aspirants.
Ogala emphasized transparency, stating that aspirants were free to withdraw if they chose and that delegates should leave the venue after voting to reduce congestion.
The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) observed the proceedings to ensure due process.
