Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign. Speaking on Arise Television, the former militant leader appealed to northern political figures to allow Tinubu to serve a full eight-year tenure, just as former President Muhammadu Buhari did.
Tompolo described Tinubu as “a good person” with the capability to advance Nigeria’s development and urged, “Let Tinubu have his eight years too and go then we will look for another person.” He committed to traveling across northern states to garner support for the president’s second term.
The endorsement by Tompolo aligns with backing from traditional rulers in the Niger Delta, who have expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership. Furthermore, Tompolo plans a nationwide campaign to consolidate support for Tinubu’s continued presidency.
On the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, Tompolo remains hopeful, noting the relationship between Governor Fubara and ex-Governor Wike is comparable to “Oga and his boy.” He assured that democracy will be upheld and that Fubara will return to office with presidential support.
