In a decisive move against drug peddling, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce arrested 20 individuals in Gowon Estate and Egbeda during raids on Tuesday.
The operation targeted notorious drug hotspots including the 31 Road intersection, Wole Omo-Osho, and Idoani Streets, plus Egbeda market on Egbeda-Idimu Road.
The Ministry of Environment and Water Resources confirmed the dismantling of illegal stalls at Idoani Street, which intelligence reports identified as hubs for illicit drug sales and use.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab commended the operation on X, warning criminals exploiting informal trading fronts: “These criminal hideouts will no longer be tolerated in Lagos State.” He reiterated the government’s zero tolerance for crime and its resolve to protect public safety.
Authorities confirmed suspects will be prosecuted, with ongoing operations planned to maintain safer public spaces. Residents were encouraged to assist by reporting suspicious activities.
