The National Industrial Court in Abuja has scheduled March 17 to deliver its ruling on a lawsuit filed by over 400 police officers who claim they were unlawfully retired from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The case, marked NICN/ABJ/28/2025, was brought forward by officers from Courses 18, 19, and 20 of the Police Academy. Eight representatives, including ACP Chinedu Emengaha, ACP Victor Chilaka, and CSP Sylvester Ebosele, are leading the legal battle on behalf of the affected officers.
The officers argue that they were retired without due process, despite not reaching the mandatory retirement age.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, the officers’ counsel, Chief Goddy Uche, SAN, criticized the police authorities for reducing some officers’ ranks and retiring them while the case was still in court.
Notably, the IGP and Force Secretary failed to send legal representation for the hearing.
Justice R. B. Haastrup, however, informed the claimants that the ruling was not ready and adjourned the case to March 17.
I officers are seeking an injunction to stop their forced retirement and uphold previous National Industrial Court rulings that affirmed their appointment dates.
They also demand that the court invalidate any directive leading to their premature retirement and prohibit further actions that violate their employment terms.
