Saminu Kwari Abdullahi Makes History as First African Player to Represent FC Juárez

Saminu Kwari Abdullahi, a 24-year-old defensive midfielder from Jos, Nigeria, has made history as the first African player to join FC Juárez.

Standing at 1.81 meters tall, Abdullahi was unveiled by the club on January 31, 2025, as a reinforcement for the Clausura 2025 Liga MX season.

Abdullahi began his football journey at Gee-Lec Academy in Nigeria before moving to Europe in 2019 to sign with FK Spartaks Jūrmala in Latvia, where he made 47 appearances and scored 2 goals.

He then had loan and permanent stints with Veles Moscow in Russia, accumulating 37 appearances and 1 goal. Subsequent moves saw him at Dynamo Makhachkala (19 appearances, 2 goals) and FC Khimki (16 appearances) in Russia.

In total, Abdullahi has amassed 131 professional appearances, contributing 5 goals.

His signing is part of FC Juárez's broader strategy to strengthen their squad for the current season. Reports also indicate that the club is finalizing a loan agreement with Partizán Belgrade for Peruvian winger Joao Grimaldo, with a loan fee of €100,000 and a purchase option set at €1.9 million. Grimaldo is expected to arrive in Mexico soon for medical examinations.

Abdullahi's diverse experience across European leagues is anticipated to bolster FC Juárez's midfield as they aim for a successful Clausura 2025 campaign.
