The majority leader of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin has urged Oyo Government to support real farmers as raining season is about to commence.

In his motion on food security as the agricultural season approaches, the lawmaker representing Ogbomoso South Constituency called on the Oyo government to provide tools and other equipment to the real farmers in order to avert famine in Oyo State.

Adedoyin, who made the call during the Thursday plenary, pointed out that farmers have suffered greatly as a result of the present state of the economy and poor weather.

He emphasized that in order for farming to bring prosperity to the people, it is critical to support farmers before expecting any kind of relief.

As part of the government's efforts to increase food in Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole, Adedoyin urged Governor Makinde to keep the promises he made to the farmers during his meeting with traders in Fashola.

He commended the government for the several initiatives it has implemented to advance agriculture in Oyo State, stressing that real farmers must be able to access credit loan, get necessary support including grains among others to be able to make a good harvest during the raining season.

He also encouraged the government to purchase tractors at a subsidized rate for farmers, emphasizing that this should be done in conjunction with local government authorities.

"Helping farmers should not be done by the State Government alone," he declared. It is important that local governments make every effort to make farming easier.

“With regard to open rearing regulations, the government should take the appropriate action to guarantee that individuals who are interfering with farmers' operations be restrained and that security outfit such as Amotekun should be manned at farm to protect the farmers.

The House, however, urged the Oyo government through the ministry of Agriculture and Rural development to implement the subsidy program for tractors as promised by the Governor, so that the farmers can procure at a reasonable price as the farming season commences.

It equally urged the government to provide affordable agricultural products to farmers as well as providing fertilizers among others and also implement a specific programme on the application of the Law Open Rearing and Grazing Prohibition Law.

The House further emphasized how important it is for the Oyo State Government to implement the "Open Rearing and Grazing Prohibition Law" in order to protect the lives of farmers and property.
