Agosasa Obaship Tussle: Ogun Lawmaker, Sikirat Ajibola Kicks Over Illegal Detention Of Her Husband, Alhaji Fatai Ajibola

A member representing Ipokia constituency at the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Sikirat Ajibola has alleged illegal detention of her husband, Alhaji Fatai Ajibola, by the Department of State Security (DSS)  over obaship crisis in Agosasa, Ipokia Local Government area of the state. 

Ajibola, a leader in the town, and a socialite, Otunba Akeem Adigun  popularly known as Socopao, were invited by the DSS operatives over the crisis which has reportedly claimed lives and left some houses burnt down. 

At least three persons have been reportedly killed as obaship tussle turned bloody in the community.

After the demise of the first Oja of Agosasa, Oba James Elegbede, in February 2022, the community has been thrown into crisis over the succession battle.

However, Abogunrin Sunday Olashina was said to have emerged as the Oba-elect and the choice of the elders of the community. 

The female lawmaker in a statement on Tuesday told newsmen that Socopao was displeased with the choice of the Agosasa elders and the people of Agosasa.

Mrs Ajibola accused Socopao, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being the brains behind the attacks in the community. 

She said during the clash, the DSS operatives summoned both her husband, Alhaji Fatai Ajibola and Adigun, for questioning.

The lawmaker, however, said she was shocked when Socopao was allowed to go home, but her husband had been detained since Monday. 

According to her, all efforts to seek release of her husband have proved abortive. 

The lawmaker called on the Director of DSS to release her husband immediately as part of efforts to restore peace to the community. 

She said that her husband remained a peace loving human being who was always after peaceful coexistence among his people.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi,  confirmed the bloody crisis in Agosasa, saying one person was confirmed to have been shot dead.

“The incident in Agosasa is an obaship tussle. Unfortunately, one person was shot. We learnt that some houses and vehicles were razed. But our men are there on ground. The operation is being led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations. Normalcy has been restored and our men are on ground to forestall further escalation of the crisis,” Oyeyemi said.
