5 Feared Killed, Scores Injured In Abeokuta—Sagamu Atocrash

Auto crash in Ogun State on Saturday evening has claimed the lives of five persons and injured three others.

The accident involved Howo Sino truck marked  T-14214LA and a Mazda 625 car with registration number KRD 975 HJ.

The unfortunate incident occurred at Day Waterman College  corridor of the Abeokuta - Kobape - Siun - Sagamu expressway when the Howo truck recklessly made a U - Turn.

The Mazda car coming the rear, rammed into it. Eight persons were involved in the fatal crash which reduced the Mazda car to a mere carcas.

Operatives of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) and some members of the public were seen rescuing victims, clearing obstructions and re -directing traffic.

The Spokesperson of the TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident said one of the injured victims was taken to State Hospital, Ijaiye while two others were referred to Federal Medical Centre(FMC), Idi-Aba for proper medical attention.

Our correspondent gathered that one among the victims transferred to the FMC gave up the ghost at the FMC premises and the body was evacuated to State Hospital, Ijaiye Morgue while two others were deposited at Idera Hospital Morgue Sagamu.

Akinbiyi attributed the cause of the accident to reckless turning by the driver of the Howo truck.


He stated: "According to eyewitness account, the driver of the Howo truck get caused the crash, drove dangerously and recklessly, by not being considerate and apply cautuon to throughout traffic coming from Abeokuta, while turning to the outbound lane from the inbound lane.

"Out of the 8 passengers in the commercial Mazda vehicle, 5 lost their lives, (2male adult & 3female adult) including a medical doctor, while 3 female adult were injured.

"Unfortunately, the driver of the Howo truck who caused the crash ran away.
However, the accidents vehicles have been deposited at the Obafemi Owode Divisional Police Station.

"While TRACE commiserate with the families of the deceased,  articulated vehicle drivers are again admonished to observe safety rules and avoid overbearing attitude while driving in view of its attendant consequences."
