OGUN UNDER GOV. DAPO ABIODUN, 24 MONTHS AFTER
In the last 24months, Ogun State under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, has witnessed monumental turn-around in all spheres as his administration has effected fundamental changes through a number of initiatives encapsulated under the acronym, I-S-E-Y-A. These programmes meant to end poverty and engender a new lease of life are anchored on "focused and qualitative governance and to create the enabling environment for a public private sector partnership, which is fundamental to the creation of an enduring economic development and individual prosperity of the people". The initiatives include but not limited to:
• Reconstruction of 34 roads totaling 270.88 km, with another 41 accumulating to 322.637 km being rehabilitated and at different stages of completion across the State’s three Senatorial Districts regardless of their categorization as trunk A, B or C roads, including the 14-lane Epe-Ijebu-Ode/Epe Expressway
• Beautification projects, including the luxury Gateway City Gate Park at the Interchange leading to the State Capital on Lagos – Ibadan Express road
• Building of an ultra-modern computer-equipped Press Centre, fitted with briefing rooms, cafeteria and lounges, named after Chief Olusegun Osoba within the Governor’s Office complex

• Kick starting the transportation master plan with procurement of wifi-enabled air conditioned buses
• Construction of Prince Court Estate at Kemta, Abeokuta, an affordable housing project with a plan for 450 units out of which 130 units of the first phase are fully completed and allocated.
• Similar schemes are being replicated in different parts of the State including Sagamu, Ilaro, Ijebu Ode, Ifo and Kobape. These schemes are at different stages of completion.
• 31 units of the King’s Court comprising 5-bedroom duplex with an attached boys’ quarter located in Oke-Mosan is completed and ready for allocation.
• Construction of additional 23-unit of 2 and 3 bedroom affordable bungalows at Laderin Estate Civil Servants Scheme.
• Downward review of the selling price and the reduction from 18% to 6% of the interest rate payable by residents of AAK Degun workers’ estate to ease and quicken ownership process.
• Implementation of the new minimum wage and the decision to stick with it despite prevailing economic meltdown.
• Commencement of the payment of gratuity arrears owed by past administrations with .5b naira.
• Mainstreaming of 2000 ASCON Entrants supposedly employed by the immediate past administration, but without records in the Civil Service record and payment of backlog of their salaries.
• Rehabilitation of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across all the 236 wards in the State.
• Equipping State hospitals and other secondary health facilities across the 3 senatorial districts with State-of-the-art medical equipment.
• Increasing the fleet of the State Emergency Ambulance Service from 4 inherited from the last administration to 20 to ensure 24 hour prompt and improved medicare services to accident victims.
• Purchase and distribution of 22 Tricycle Ambulances to PHCs to improve health indices and help put an end to maternal deaths and other health emergencies. Government intends to procure more so as to go round all the PHCs in the State.
• Commissions 3 Government-owned Isolation Centres and 1 well-equipped Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for high risk Covid-19 cases to curb the spread of the virus.
• Commissions 2 Molecular Laboratories to boost the State’s testing capacity for covid-19 and other epidemiological diseases
• Commissions Clinical Skills Development Laboratory at the School of Midwifery Abeokuta to enhance learning process amongst the students.
• Successful de-worming of 592,077 000 School-age children in 14 Local Government Areas of the State
• Treatment of 3,085,838 residents across 18 LGAs to tackle Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)
• Launch and distribution of 10,000 oral self-testing kits for HIV/AIDS. Ogun State is the first state to achieve this feat nationwide. This is in addition to the distribution of 50,000 test kits, all in the bid to reduce rate of HIV infection in the State.
• Payment of N100m commitment fund to facilitate the establishment of the State Health Insurance Agency.
• Training of 1,433 Health Workers and Community leaders on Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) for the Ward Development Committees (WDCs) in each of the 236 wards in the State.
• Establishment of a family Planning Centre at State Hospital, Ijebu Ode to improve Family Planning uptake in women aged 15 – 49years old
• Vaccination of 59,505 clients with Covid-19 Vaccine across the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State.
• Disbursement of Funds to 196 Primary Health Care Centres across the 20 LGAs for the implementation of Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) activities in Ogun State.
• Construction and rehabilitation of 2000 units of classrooms and offices in public primary and secondary schools, including Construction of 324 brand new blocks of classrooms, rehabilitation of 570 blocks of classrooms and a total of 1728 classrooms plus 145 new offices and 120 stores
• Budget allocation to the education sector increased to 20%, just as over 120% increase is effected in the running costs of primary and secondary schools.
• Abolishment of all forms of levies and distribution of 25,000 furniture to Primary and Secondary school attendees in the state
• Provision of 53 Interactive Boards and 25 wheel chairs to all Special Needs Schools in the State.
• Introduction of Digiclass, an on air classroom setting training on radio and television. This is idea has been adopted by UBE as a sustainable teaching and learning platform. It is noteworthy that the idea also fetched Governor Abiodun the Best Governor in Education award by the National PTA
• Donation of textbooks and other teaching materials to Public Primary Schools in Ogun State. This was done in partnership with Learn Africa Plc.
• Payment of scholarships to outstanding students in all Ogun State tertiary institutions.
• Payment of Bursary to Ogun State Indigenes in tertiary institutions across the country. Employment of 1,500 Teachers into public schools across the 20 LGAs in the State.
• Introduction of Ogun TEACh, an intervention to employ 5,000 interns to fill teacher- vacancies in Primary, Secondary and Technical Colleges in the State.
• Procurement and Installation of Education Management Information System (EMIS) to aid data collection, collation and analysis in the Headquarters and all the 20 LGEAs.
• Training of 100 Primary School teachers in collaboration with an NGO, West African Vocational Education (WAVE) on soft skills for effective teaching delivery in classrooms.
• Capacity building for Quality Assurance Officers in the Ministry of Education organized for 836 Officers to re- energize their knowledge and competence in the effective and efficient performance of their duties.
• Appointment of Principals-General and Headmasters-General.
• 10,000 teaching and non-teaching staff in public schools got promoted following the approval given by Governor Abidoun to conduct a promotion exercise for three preceding years before he took mantle of leadership.
• Appointment of 578 teaching and non–teaching staff absorbed from 28 acquired Community Schools with 8 month salaries paid to them.
• Resolving the crises bedeviling MAPOLY and TASCE and put the two institutions back on track.
• Facilitation of a N700m loan credit of the CBN under the Anchor Borrowers Programme (ABP) for 10,000 farmers drawn across all 20 LGAs
• Ogun Broiler Project from which over 9,000 youths benefitted with each beneficiary making an average profit of N180,000 per six weeks of production.
• Facilitation of access to loan and seedling to rice farmers across the State and provision of farmlands, including the 120,000 hectare rice farm at Sowunmi Village along the Ofada/Mokoloki axis of the State and fast-tracking of the Joint Ogun State and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Value Chain Project across 8 LGAs of the State.
• Agro-Industrial Processing Zone: After competitive bidding, Ogun State was on 8th April, 2020 short listed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) as a major hub for Industrial Cassava, Poultry, Agro-Forestry and Fishery.
• Fish Farming: Construction and maintenance of 385 (Dug-Out – 235; Tank – 130) new fish ponds/tanks. Assisting 2,815 farmers in stocking over 3,815,000 Clarias Fingerlings.
• FADAMA Scheme: Empowerment of FADAMA Graduate Unemployed Youths Scheme (GUYS), with credited 200 beneficiaries being granted over 74Million Naira
• Construction of 11 solar-powered boreholes for 2,500 beneficiaries of the Ogun State Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP).
• Amendment of the State Security Trust Fund (OGSTF) law and funding same trust fund with N1billion.
• Donation of 100 patrol vehicles and 200 motorcycles to the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police. The Government on 28th April, 2020 again donated 15 additional operational vehicles and 91 motorbikes to different security agencies in the State.
• Flagging off of the Amotekun Corps and providing it with operational patrol vans, motorcycles and communication gadgets for the operatives that had earlier been employed and trained.
• Expansion of the state power distribution network by procuring and distributing 150 units of 500 KVA transformers to communities across the 20 local government areas.
• Improved Urban Water supply at Arakanga, Abeokuta North LGA to provide potable water to Abeokuta. Repair of water supply facilities to 14 other major communities in Ikenne, Igbogila, Ibooro, Odonopa, Ipokia, Idowa, Omu Ijebu, Ago Iwoye, Igbesa, Owode Yewa, Imoru, Ibefun and Ikangba.
• The launch of the Ogun State Digital Economy Infrastructure to position the State into becoming a major global site of the emerging telecommunication economy by making broadband connectivity available across the State.
• Payment of N85m as grants-in-aid/subvention to Community Development Associations across the State to fast track their self-help community development programme.
• Setting up Ogun Job Portal, an online platform where unemployed persons or business owners, seeking career advancement, register their profiles towards getting the desired result.
• Distribution of modern fish smoking kilns to 30 fish processing Cooperative groups across the three Senatorial Districts.
• Empowerment and recruitment of 1,000 people into the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA). Also, 400 youth artisans were recruited across crafts (plumbing, electrical and building) as Direct Labour initiative into the State Ministry of Housing's Building Programmes.
• Abocoders Academy: An initiative focused on training women between ages of 16-35years in the act of coding (programming). The Academy started with over 35 students, running a 4 month programme, which equips them with the pre-requisite skills needed to get industrial attachment.
• Formation of Tech Club: To provide an enabling environment for kids and other young technocrats to network, socialize and brainstorm. Ogun also operates a data centre, and currently has a 42U Rack at the DC which hosts the State mail server and other application servers used by other MDAs. Construction of (3) new fire stations at Isheri, Mowe and Ifo and procurement (3) of Fire tenders and of other fire-fighting equipment to promptly fight fire outbreak.
• Facilitating the engagement of 3,505 women as cooks in the Home Grown School Feeding programme and providing them with essential cooking utensils, uniforms and aprons to all cooks at no cost (empowerment generation)
• Facilitation of the payment of Federal Government grants to rural women in all the 20 local government.
• Cleaner environment with the creation of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority ( OGWAMA) to take care of solid industrial and public waste. OGWAMA has already engaged over 150 Private Sector Participants PSP to manage and ensure effective municipal waste management.
• Desilting of river courses and canal in the state to prevent flooding and maintenance of existing eleven (11) registered dumpsites through daily monitoring by OGWAMA.
• Recruitment of 212 graduates into the TRACE corps
• Setting up of the Ogun State Volunteers Programme with the recruitment of 100 Call Centre volunteers and 50 Mental Health Specialists to Support Covid -19
• Empowerment of 2500 rural women across the State through provision of products worth N100m to support their retail businesses under the social empowerment scheme named “Oko'Wo Dapo”
• The creation of Access Bank Agency banking initiative for 100 youths
• Skill acquisition training and Empowerment for 100 youths in partnership with IHS Tower Nigeria Limited.
• Empowerment of women from across the state with working tools such as grinding machines, freezers and others
• Skill acquisition training programme for 300 unemployed youths on hairdressing, bead-making, tailoring, decorations among others.
• Reorganising the process of obtaining building plans within 7 days
• Purchase of 26 mini buses to enhancing urban and physical planning activities
• Distribution of 67 Solar powered kits to underserved rural communities not linked to the National grid across the three Senatorial Districts.
• Provision of solar powered boreholes in 63 rural communities across the State to provide safe drinking water and prevent water borne diseases.
• Purchase of Patrol Vehicles, motorcycles and other gadgets for TRACE operatives towards ensuring safe motoring on the roads.
• Construction of 14km, 10-lane Ijebu-Ode Epe Expressroad
