Jeff Bezos, billionaire founder and outgoing CEO of Amazon, has been named as the secret buyer of a £350million superyacht.

The impressive 417ft long vessel is said to be so big that it even comes with its own “support yacht” with a helipad.

Known only by its project name Y721, exact details about the luxury ship are being kept under wraps – but snippets are reported to have emerged via its Dutch manufacturer Oceanco.

As well as an “ambient” cinema and swimming pool, the vessel will be powered with the assistance of three giant masts and will stretch over several decks.

The need for a “support yacht” with a helipad is said to have been requested due to the large sails on the main ship preventing an on-board helipad.

The reported $500million price tag (£350million) is being floated by several sources – and would be double the price Mr Bezos paid to buy Washington Post newspapers in 2013.

It is also just a fraction of the Amazon billionaire’s estimated worth of $191billion.

The ship is expected to be finished next month, almost two years after it was ordered by Mr Bezos and his partner Lauren Sanchez, according to Bloomberg.

The news of the extravagant purchase comes just months after Mr Bezos confirmed he was stepping down as CEO of Amazon after 25 years.

The company revealed Amazon Web Services chief Andy Jassy will take over the role while Bezos will become executive chairman.

Meanwhile, the company reported its third consecutive record profit and quarterly sales above $100 billion (£73 billion) for the first time.

Mr Bezos, who started the company as an internet bookseller, said in a note to employees posted on Amazon’s website: “As Exec Chair I will stay engaged in important Amazon initiatives but also have the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post, and my other passions.”
