The United States' Presidential Election is arguably the most impactful elections in the world of today. This is because whoever becomes the President of the United States is indirectly seen as one of the most influential men in the world. The two contenders for the 3rd November, 2020 election is President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden.

The polls so far shows that former Vice President Joe Biden, a Democrat who was the Vice President during the administration of Barack Obama and whose running mate is Senator Kamala Harris seems to be in the lead in the polls. With almost 100 Americans having casted their votes already, a winner is likely to be known in some hours to come.

Latest Polls According To The New York Times:

However, despite having the highest number of votes so far (leading the polls), Mr Joe Biden may still lose the election as it was the case in 2016 when Hilary Clinton won the popular vote but lost the electoral college vote, making Trump emerge as the winner.

Former President Barack Obama And Vice President Joe Biden:

The reason for this is that in the United States, the posts of Presidents and Vice Presidents are not directly determined by the citizens, they are rather determined by what are called the "Electors" (Electoral College) who are often the ones who have the power to choose, with each states getting a certain number of elector votes based on its population.

In total, 538 votes are up for grabs and whoever has 270 votes or more among the 2 contenders would become the next President of the United States. So in essence, even though Mr Joe Biden may be leading the popular vote, he may still lose the election if he fails to win the most important poll which is the Electoral College vote.
