Hon Wahab Haruna Abiodun Egungbohun Frown At Extortion Of His Constituents

Hon. Wahab Haruna Abiodun Egungbohun at the plenary on Thursday 3rd September,2020 during his personal explanation expressed need for immediate removal of illegal checkpoints across Yewa North Constituency II. In his explanation, he said it would have been a greater advantage having many checkpoint on the road but reverse is the case as motorist and other road users are been extorted on market days. He stressed further that from Yewa bridge Ebute Igbooro to Obele Ohunbe has more than 25 police checkpoints and customs checkpoints in like number on a distant of 20 km.

Hon. Wahab is urging Mr speaker to  use his good office to urge the state governor Dr Prince Dapo Abiodun to compel both police and customs to eliminate illegal checkpoints and nipping points to ensure that those that are operationally expedient for crime prevention and  other forms of key duties are put in place.

 Hon. Haruna who urge the state government to look into this urgly situation as it affect his  Constituents advice both the Commissioner of Police and Customs Comptroller to ensure that officers deployed to checkpoints eschew all forms of corruption, ostensibly in reaction to cases of alleged extortion of travellers and motorists, especially on market days.

He explained that the community leaders, elders, market women, motorist and NURTW  have submitted several petitions in last two months which he has layed at the plenary session. However, Hon Wahab has also used it as pasonal explanation twice within 2 months.

Meanwhile, Hon Wahab Haruna Abiodun who praised the men of So- Safe Corps , Ketu Division for their  gallantry display to arrest a kidnap kingpin around Ogunba Ayetoro had also  urge the state government to support his Constituency with active and operational  police patrol van at Eggua police station to enable them carry out their duties around the area.

The Speaker RT Hon Olukunle Oluomo  also appealed to the Commissioner of police and the Comptroller of Customs to regulate the activities of both customs and police on the road.

The Speaker ,Rt Hon. Speaker Olakunle  Oluomo appreciate and recognize the effort of Hon. Haruna concern the issue as it really bothering his Constituents
