Abeokuta - There was a wide controversy in Federal Medical Centre FMC in Abeokuta as a placenta of a newly born baby was said to be missing after birth yesterday.

According to the father of the baby who pleaded on anonymity narrated the ordeal on how he was denied the placenta of his baby shortly after his wife gave birth. " Immediately my wife gave birth I approached the nurse who were in the theatre but they referred me to the ward maid when I got to the maids they said they could not find the placenta of my baby which led to questioning of what happened to the placenta" said father of the baby.

"The surprising part was that the placenta was later found in the waste bin alongside the knives and other delivery tools inside the sack and I quickly collected the placenta and do the needful to it according to traditions" Father of the baby added.

The father in-law to the father of the baby, Hon Bisi Oyemade demanded for investigation of the matter as he expressed huge disappointment in Federal Medical Centre for the unprofessional job.

When our correspondent contacted the Segun Orisajo Head, Public Relations & Information to Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta, he said "Systemic challenges are inevitable in systems being run by mere mortals. The placenta was inadvertently packed among items to be disposed. It was there after retrieved and handed over to the father of the new born baby."
