Covid-19: IITA Sign MOU With Ogun Government On Agricultural Practices

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) ,Ibadan is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ogun State government through the Ministry of Agriculture on agricultural practices. 
Agric Commissioner, Dr Samson Adeola Odedina stated that, the government is putting all efforts together to ensure the youths make more than enough fortune through agricultural practices in the state, despite the coronavirus pandemic, that has ravaged the world. 
"Covid-19 has crippled the world economy, in that vein we are doing our best possible to secure the future of our dear state by supporting our youths, farmers with provision of farm seeds and other materials to encourage them." 

"Also, Forty Seven (47) hectares of land have been cleared in Odeda Farm Settlement for our youths who are interested in cassava, vegetables and yam."
Observing the facilities put in place at Odeda Farm settlement is Dr. Richardson Okechuckwu who lead a four- man team from 
International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
He noted  that, the Institute is working with Ogun State government to develop Odeda Farm Settlement as pilot center where people who are interested in farming get planting materials in the state. 

Also,  Prof. Lateef Sanni added that  IITA is ready to support vegetable farmers with virus and non resistant seeds to ensure their yield is more than sufficient. 

Dr.  Dotun Sorunke, the Permanent Secretary of the  Ministry further added that  farming is mostly seen as a way of survival by many people, meanwhile, it should be seen as a way of making fortune, as Ogun State government through the  ministry of agriculture is ready to rally necessary support for interested farmers.
