The Federal Government is set to hand over rice mills and irrigation facilities already located at Shangisha, Eegua at Yewa North Local Government to Ogun state government.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Adeola Odedina, who disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists after the inspecting the facilities of the pilot phase of the agricultural revolution of the Federal Government intervention programme in Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, expressed satisfaction with the level of the projects, saying the State Government is ready to take possession of the facilities and maximise it production capacity to further boost rice production in the State.
He explained that the pilot irrigation facilities which is situated at a strategic area of the State, due to its closeness to the border, is to help rice farmers in the area remain in the business, while their success will encourage other unemployed youths across the State to take a cue from their colleagues.
He stated further that irrespective of the availability of rain, rice farmers would be able to plant at multiple times in a year, saying this would not only increase their yield with the use of modern technologies but also increase their income generation.

He submitted that this would serve as an opportunity for the youth of the area to engage in rice farming along the value chain.
The Commissioner therefore charged the people of the area, particularly the youths to support the government’s efforts towards revolutionising agriculture, by contributing their quota to make the pilot projects’ success enable other youths across the state to benefit through the replication of the projects in other part of the State.

In his words, representative of the youth cluster farmers in the area, Mr Yakub Olowookere expressed appreciation to both the Federal and State Government for locating the pilot projects in Yewa North Area considering its proximity to the border area of the country as an additional source of livelihood.

He said the youths in the areas should seize the numerous employment opportunities provided by the projects along the value chain and engage in the production of rice, saying with the rice mill and pilot irrigation facilities situated in the area, government has further demonstrated its commitment towards creating employment opportunities for the youths and developing the agricultural sector.
