Last sunday, the 14th of December, it would be recalled that two persons were killed and scores of residents injured when members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) clashed in Lagos. Of the two killed during the clash was a chairman of a unit in Ijesha, Surulere axis.
The clash, according to a member of the NURTW, was orchestrated by one of the unit chairman, who aimed to overthrow the incumbent Ijesha branch chairman.
Well this has led the Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Mrs. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe to announce the immediate suspension of the activities of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in the Local Development Area until further notice.
MC Oluomo the State chairman of the union has said the suspension is in order and he's fully in support of the verdict until a peaceful resolution is reached.
It is now left to him to reconcile the differences between the factions so that peace can be given a chance, as this gang war is becoming too frequent.
