A middle-aged man simply identified as Idris Aloma met his death on Christmas day after falling off from the 3rd mainland rail into the deep water after consuming several bottles of beers.
Aloma who was a clerk at Ijoko agba recreation centre, around Adeniji Adele, Lagos was said to have embarked on the consumption of several alcoholic drinks while celebrating the Christmas with friends before he slept off on the rail where he fell off into the water.
Some of his friends who spoke with our correspondent said, sitting on the rail was a usual thing among the boys in the area but for Aloma that was unfortunate due to his condition.
“People usually sit on the rail very well. He was not the first person to sit on it. Even on that day, other people were beside him, but nobody knew he had dozed off until he fell backwards into the water. All efforts to save his life were not successful. His body later came up this morning. It was really sad because we all celebrated the Christmas together yesterday”, Oladeji, a resident recounted.
Our correspondent at the scene of the incident gathered that the victim had been warned on his consumption of alcoholic drink when he started misbehaving.
“He was among the people that benefited from Christmas gifts that were shared by Iron lady. He was dancing when he collected rice and chicken. He has not even killed the chicken because he said he would do on boxing day. Unfortunately, he didn’t live to see that boxing day”, the deceased friend, Wale Sureboy said.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that people had been warned on the danger of sitting on the bridge’s rail until Aloma fell victim.
