A bizarre incidence happened on the 9th of November, 2019, where a police officer by name Sergeant Ilayasa Adamu, attached to the Ejigbo Police Division was alleged beaten up by a motorcycle rider. The motorcycle rider whose name was given as Mr. Emmanuel Okoro Chukwuebuka was alleged to be plyinga road designated as “one why”. The police officer designated sergeantIlayasa Adamu decided to flag down the motorcycle rider but the motorcycle rider desirous of beating the heavy traffic flow along the area called off the bluff of the police officer and drove on a one way road.
When the police officer accosted the motorcycle rider to stop, an argument ensued between the both parties which led to the melee, in the process, the motorcycle rider who felt angry at the way the police officer was dragging him from the motorcycle, allegedly beat up the police officer, broke his necklace and attempted to take his rifle from him. The police officer in return called for mobilization and the motorcycle rider was arrested and charged to Ejigbo Magistrate Court.
The charge sheet read; that you Emmanuel Okoro Chukwuebuka on the 9th day of November, 2019 at about 17:00hrs, at NNPC Junction, Ejigbo, Lagos State. In the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault one SGT Ilayasa Adamu “m” by beating him up and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 174(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
On arraignment, the motorcycle rider pleaded not guilty to the charge and the prosecutor ASP Kenneth Asibor did not object to the bail application made by the Defendant. The presiding Magistrate T.O Shomade granted the motorcycle rider bail in the sum of 200,000 with two sureties in like sum and two years tax clearance.
